Life moves pretty fast and most of the time we fail to take a much needed break from the rapid-paced days we wish would slow down.

From not looking at your phone the moment you wake up to a quick five minute read from your favorite book in the morning, there are countless realistic rituals that can positively impact the fast paced life you are currently leading.

Listed below are a few of my favorite reset rituals that have positively impacted my lifestyle and overall health.

1. Do not check and/or use your phone the minute you wake up

Checking your phone the minute you wake up is like inviting hundreds of people into your safe space. When you invite those messages, emails and notifications into your bedroom, you are inviting a feeling of stress and anxiety as opposed to serenity and tranquility.

2. Meditate

From reducing high blood pressure and stress to fighting heart disease and improving focus, meditation has numerous benefits. Even a short five minute meditation can make a huge difference in your emotional and physical well-being. From meditation apps like the Calm and Insight Timer to Breathe and Headspace, you will find a wide range of deep breathing techniques, guided meditations, and mindfulness.

3. Hot tea + daily vitamins

From growth, maintenance, and reproduction to the fighting of infectious diseases and carrying out various body processes, Vitamins are important for our overall health and well-being. In conjunction with daily supplements, drinking cup of tea can do as little as boost immunity, aid digestion and improve colon health.

4. Clean space

A clean space is a clear head space! Clutter of any kind and all kind will only delay your daily activities. Therefore a clean space can help you wake up to a smoother start to your day and increase productivity.

5. Surround yourself and spend time with people that give you energy

Surrounding yourself with people who make you feel your best and help you grow can drastically improve your attitude and perspective on life. According to David P Brown Motivational speaker Jim Rohn, we are the culmination of the five people we spend the most time with and therefore it is important to carefully consider the type of people you want to surround yourself with. Remember to surround yourself with people that reflect who you want to be and how you want to feel, energies are contagious.

6. Feed your mind

What we read, listen to and choose to follow play a great impact on the way we perceive life and ourselves. Media platforms have led to negative experiences such as the inadequacy about our lives and/or appearances. Rather than feed our minds with negativity and comparison, read books that expand your mind, listen to podcasts that inspire your creativity to run free, and follow people that motivate and uplift you! From books like James Clear's Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones and podcasts like Margot Lee's A Working Title, feeding your mind with positive and educational works can help to improve your mental well-being and personal growth.

7. Prioritize your body

In addition to psychological care, physical care is important in alleviating anxiety, depression, and negativity as well. According to health psychologist Dr. Kelly McGonigal, "When [we] exercise, it increases endorphins, dopamine, adrenaline and endocannabinoid" brain chemicals connected with feelings of happiness, confidence, and capability. Whether hitting the treadmill bright and early, walking your dog down by the beach, or ending the day with your favorite Pilates class, exercise of any kind is essential to your overall health and well-being.

8. Treat yourself

Rewards are great, especially after a long and challenging week. When we reward ourselves, our brain elicits positive emotions, leading to the realization that our efforts result in a positive reward, therefore making us more motivated to perform well. Whether it's 20 minutes of screen time or a 45 minute coffee break, rewards of any kind are important and beneficial.

9. Less screen time

Social media can be a black hole of comparison so move yourself out of that headspace and learn to be present. Sharing is great, but oversharing can be harmful to yourself and not allow you to experience your present in full.

10. Be on time

Respecting people is respecting their time! Being timely and getting where you need to be 10 to 15 minutes early is important to prevent rushing or the wasting of others' time.

11. Be gentle and kind to yourself

In a world filled with such negativity, it is important that you be the positivity in your own and others lives! Whether it's talking to yourself like you are your best friend or speaking positive affirmations, it is SO important you work to build yourself up rather than tear yourself down!
