While many of us believe that style is something you are born with, others believe style is something you inherit. Well, I am here to tell you that style is something you will constantly develop throughout your lifetime; a period filled with fashion Do's and A LOT of fashion Don'ts. The great news is that your fashion mistakes are not the first; even the most well-known, successful individuals we idolize have made headlines in the most questionable of fashions. But the beauty of fashion is it's power of expression! Fashion is art and style is what helps us create that personalized art. And there is no shame in looking to the individuals you idolize (celebrities, athletes, friends, family, etc.) for new looks or trends that inspire you.
From timeless fashion icons like Princess Diana to present day populars like Zoë Kravitz, style inspiration was, and still is, all around us. Whether looking to explore new styles or simply keep tabs on the styles you may one day pursue, finding inspiration from your idols is a great first step in doing so. Listed below are seven celebrities that have and continue to give me fashion inspiration for 2021.
Diana, Princess of Wales
Both classy and effortless, the stylings of Princess Diana forever reign over the world of fashion. Not only a fashion icon to some of the world's most well-known celebrities, but to the public as a whole. From trends like biker shorts and crewnecks to a blazer and denim jean combination, we are seeing a little piece of Princess Diana in the daily wardrobes of everyone around us. And between the stylings of her Emanuel wedding dress to her Dior Lady Di bag, the princess has become an icon for setting her own rules in the fashion world.
Alexandra Spencer// @4thandbleeker
A new yet familiar face to the world of fashion, the Australian model and blogger co founded one of today's most popular fashion companies with friend and designer Teale Talbot. The stylings of Réalisation Par are an exact reflection of Alexandra Spencer. Mixing class and sex, Spencer brings a whole new meaning to chic fashion with her stylings of silk tops, printed minis, and simple slip dresses.
Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy
A publicist turned fashion icon, there is no doubt that Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy was foreign to the world of fashion. Wife to John F. Kennedy Jr., the public quickly drew eye to the newest addition to the Kennedy family with Bessette-Kennedy's minimalist, modern style of the 90s. Elevating pieces like the classic white collared shirt and oval shades to the scandalous slip dress and blazer combination, Bessette-Kennedy was a muse to fashion designers all over the world, especially Calvin Klein, whom she had previously worked under.
Suki Waterhouse// @sukiwaterhouse
Artistic expression and outside the box thinking first to come to mind when describing the risqué stylings of Suki Waterhouse. The English model, actress and singer is known for her mix of British 60s fashions and "cool girl" alternative stylings. Sporting fashions ranging from bohemian textile cutouts and sheer couture gowns to casual corduroy combinations and high end athleisure, there is no doubt that Waterhouse marches to the beat of her own drum.
Zoë Kravitz// @zoeisabellakravitz
Edgy takes a whole new level when it comes to Zoë Kravitz. Whether sporting red carpet gowns or a vintage tee and jeans down the street, Kravitz makes any outfit jaw-dropping. Daughter of rock-boho legends Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz, 90s coolness runs heavy in this star's DNA. With pieces ranging from chunky combat boots and oversized coats to textured dresses and loose fitting denim, Kravitz has become one of the most prominent it-girls in the fashion industry.
Maddie Demaine// @maddiedemaine
A new face to fashion, but killer inspiration for street style, comes English model and London resident Maddie Demaine. Demaine has become a key influence on streetwear lovers everywhere. A collector of high fashion and thrifted vintage goodies, the young model manages to add a personal twist to her comfortable, gender neutral fashions. Color is no game to Demaine, yet a skill she has mastered within her wardrobe. From iconic pieces like the Burberry London Brown Scarf to vintage graphic tees and intricate patterned blouses, the model's style has become unpredictable yet mimicked by all.
Lauren Leekley// @laleekley
Talk about beauty behind the camera! Photographer Lauren Leekley takes the cake for style and creativity. Leekley's fashion taste embellishes both strength and sex. Rocking pieces ranging from sheer slip dresses and midi patterned skirts to matching pantsuits and embellished denim outerwear, the photographer can and will rock any style of her choice. Like Kravitz, Leekley's "cool girl" persona emphasizes the importance of fashion experimentation and marching to the beat of your own drum.
